En los últimos 15 años el Colegio Madrid ha impulsado la enseñanza del inglés para lograr la fortaleza en sus prácticas pedagógicas y como resultado, en las habilidades de alumnos en el dominio de esta lengua extranjera. Bajo el marco filosófico y pedagógico del Colegio, desde la edad preescolar nuestros niños comienzan a comunicarse en inglés para desarrollar su pensamiento crítico y creativo que complemente su formación en la lengua materna. A lo largo de su paso por el Colegio se promueve la participación activa para fomentar el aprendizaje y la reflexión.

En el año 2012 se comenzó a elaborar un currículo vertical propio que respondiera a las necesidades de la comunidad educativa. En la actualidad, el currículo vertical de la Academia abarca desde la etapa maternal hasta el último año de bachillerato. Todos los niveles de inglés que se imparten en el Colegio están alineados con los del Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las lenguas (CEFR por sus siglas en inglés) y los alumnos no sólo desarrollan las habilidades en la lengua inglesa, sino también aquellas que les permitirán obtener mejores resultados en las certificaciones internacionales de nivel de idioma.

Contar con un currículo vertical propio también permitió redefinir el perfil de egreso de las secciones estableciendo el nivel A2 para primaria, B1 para secundaria y dos niveles para bachillerato: B2 y C1.

Desde agosto del año 2019 el Colegio forma parte del programa Cambridge English Schools. El convenio firmado con dos divisiones de la Universidad de Cambridge (Cambridge University Press y Cambridge English Assessment) permite que todos nuestros alumnos utilicen materiales especializados de dicha casa editorial, presenten sus certificaciones al finalizar primaria, secundaria y bachillerato, y que el Colegio tenga el acompañamiento y la asesoría por parte de Cambridge respecto al trabajo que se realiza con nuestros alumnos. Además, los profesores de la Academia de Inglés reciben cursos de profesionalización docente diseñados por Cambridge.

En el ciclo escolar 2022-2023 se implementó una nueva clase llamada Integrated Learning, gracias a la cual en 2º y 3º año de preescolar y a lo largo de toda la primaria, los alumnos tienen una hora adicional a la semana en la que consolidan en inglés, alguno de los aprendizajes fundamentales que aprendieron con su maestro titular. Se trata de un valioso espacio en el que los estudiantes pueden realizar conexiones entre los aprendizajes de diferentes asignaturas, con los aprendizajes y el desarrollo de las habilidades que requieren para el dominio del idioma inglés.

Un año después, se dio otro gran paso para fortalecer el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje del inglés en el Colegio, con la implementación del Programa de Inmersión Lingüística. En preescolar y primaria baja, la asignatura de Diseño y Aprendizaje se imparte completamente en inglés, así como la de Movimiento y Expresión en primaria alta. En secundaria y bachillerato diferentes asignaturas implementan secuencias didácticas en inglés, para ofrecerles a los alumnos experiencias de aprendizaje significativas que les permitan desenvolverse en distintos contextos del ámbito académico.

 

ENGLISH ACADEMY

In the last 15 years, Colegio Madrid has promoted the English language teaching to achieve the strength in its pedagogical practices and, as a result, in the students’ skills in mastering this foreign language. Under Colegio Madrid’s philosophical and pedagogical framework, since preschool our students begin communicating in English to develop their critical and creative thinking that complements their training in their mother tongue. Throughout their path at Colegio Madrid, active participation is encouraged to promote learning and reflection.

In 2012 we began with the development of our vertical curriculum that responded to the needs of our educational community. Nowadays, the Academy’s curriculum covers from the maternal stage to the last year of high school. All levels of English taught at Colegio Madrid are aligned with those of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and students not only develop English language skills, but also those that will allow them to obtain better results in international language level qualifications.

Having its own vertical curriculum also helped redefine the graduation profile of the different stages, with the level A2 for primary, B1 for secondary and two levels for high school: B2 and C1.

Since August 2019, the school has been part of the Cambridge English Schools programme. The agreement signed with two divisions of University of Cambridge (Cambridge University Press and Cambridge English Assessment) allows all our students to use specialised materials from said publishing house, to take their certifications at the end of primary, secondary and high school, and for the English Academy, to have the support and advice from Cambridge regarding the work that is done with our students. Additionally, the English teachers receive professionalisation courses designed by Cambridge.

In the school year 2022-2023 a new class called Integrated Learning was implemented, in which in 2nd and 3rd grade of preschool and in primary, the students have an additional weekly hour where they consolidate in English, some of the fundamental learning they achieved with their Spanish teacher. This is a valuable space where the students can make connections between the learning of different subjects, with the learning and development of the skills they require for mastering the English language.

One year later, another great step was taken to strengthen the teaching and learning process of English at our school, with the implementation of the Language Immersion Programme. In preschool and in lower primary school, the subject Design and Technology (Diseño y Tecnología) is taught entirely in English, and the subject Movement and Expression (Movimiento y Expresión) in upper primary. In secondary and high school, different subjects implement teaching sequences in English to offer our students significant learning experiences that allow them to function in diverse context in the academic field.
